Trailer Reflection

1. Explain the premise of your movie briefly (what it is about)

The movie is about a family that got divorced and Kate, the family’s only child discovered a nasty secret hidden by the new girlfriend of her father. Shortly after she discovered the secret, she was kidnapped.  Kate doesn’t know who the kidnapper is, or why he/she would do this to her, but then she remembered about the box she found the other day and put all the pieces and puzzles together, she escaped through much difficulty and started home to warn her father.  But when she got home, no one was in the house; her mom disappeared without leaving a note which is very unusual, afterwards, she got a phone call from an unknown caller and it said “This is not over.”

2. What scenes does your movie trailer show, and why did you choose to them?

The scenes included in the trailers are when Kate’s Mother takes off her wedding ring; we also have the scene when Kate decided to go visit her Father because she really misses him.  Then we have Kate meeting with her Father’s new girlfriend, and when she went in to the main bedroom and searched Victoria’s (the girlfriend’s) box.  We included Kate leaving in a rush after discovering Victoria’s secret, then the scenes when Kate was kidnapped and escaped.  We also included the mysterious footprints left by the kidnapper, after we will end it with the “This is not over” message from the phone call.   We chose these scenes because they’re the most exciting parts of the movie; these scenes are most likely to grab people’s attention, and raise some questions out of the audience, which will make them want to go see more of the movie.

3. Why does your trailer make the audience want to watch the movie?

My trailer make the audience want to watch the movie because it includes action, betrayal, and mystery.  The genre of our movie is very common for the present-day audience, which will grab their attention to make them want to watch the movie. Another reason is that the scenes in the trailer along with the music makes the audience excited to watch the full movie, because we included many scenes that will make the audience question themselves.

4. What sound effects and music did you choose, and why.

For the start we chose some sad and quiet music because at the start it’s about the family getting divorced.  Then towards the middle the music start to crescendo because it became the climax of the movie and everything is intense and in suspense, but towards the end until the release date, the music suddenly stops and shows a part of the scene from the movie, so everything is quiet after.  The sound effects we chose are the part where the mother put down the ring, walking down the stairs, and opening the door. We added the sound effects because we wanted to emphasize the motions better; it gives audience a better understanding of what is happening in the trailer as well.

5. What do you like about your movie trailer?

I like the fact that it looks like a professional movie trailer, the intros are very much like the real movie trailers.  I also like our plot and the story in the trailer; it will grab people’s attentions.  The movie trailer is also very short which can be an advantage since many people don’t like to watch a long video.

6. What challenges did you and your group members overcome?

First, we had bit of trouble filming outside when it was -20 degrees, it’s very hard to adjust angles because of the amount of snow, it was also very slippery and since there was a scene where I had to run, it was difficult to act.  But at the end we just did our best, and I ran very slowly so I wouldn’t slip, we just sort of increase the speed of the video for the trailer. Second, we had trouble putting music because we needed more than one type of music but afterwards we figured it out.

7. What changes would you make for the future?

I think I would change how we arranged our time for each part of the summative, I think we just need to manage our time a little bit better but when we really got down to work, we were very efficient and I liked that about my group.  Also, I would change the genre of our trailer next time, a genre that doesn’t require us filming outside in Canadian winter.

Creative Commons

What is creative commons?

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. Creative Commons helps you share your knowledge and creativity with the world. It develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation.

Why is it important?

It’s important because it allows everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions a simple, standardized way to keep their copyright while allowing certain uses of their work. Every Creative Commons license also ensures licensors get the credit for their work they deserve. Every Creative Commons license works around the world and lasts as long as applicable copyright lasts (because they are built on copyright). These common features serve as the baseline, on top of which licensors can choose to grant additional permissions when deciding how they want their work to be used.

List the 4 different types of licenses, and describe each one

1. Attribution means: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work – and derivative works based upon it – but only if they give you credit.

2. Noncommercial means: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work – and derivative works based upon it but for noncommercial purposes only.

3. No Derivative Works means: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.

4. Share Alike means: You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.
